discovery

ok, tell me off if you wanna but I seriously am bored of reading the yellow book.
anyways I discovered something today (maybe a little too late). I was actually thinking how much will a PATA to IDE converter cost, but somehow this thought can now be gotten rid off my mind, maybe.

yea. this is how it goes.. I was installing sims 3 on my dad's computer - to test it's performance of windows 7, and the installer was on my sis' portable hard disk.
somehow the hard disk or should it be cable/power problem is that irritating where it keeps disconnecting and I have to held it near my ears to listen for the spinning up sound and making sure it doesnt d/c again.
then I saw this screw that is missing on the cover of the connector.

after installing sims 3 and tested it, I removed the screw on the other side of the cover.... and found out something really interesting, it's a PATA to IDE converter and a laptop hard disk.

this is really damn useful.. there's an old laptop where my cousin actually passed it to me to "repair" it, but to no avail.. it's too slow to be used actually. lol.

I took the hard disk out of that laptop and tried connecting using that PATA to IDE converter.. and it works!

these are the two hard disks:
